11:30
p.m - The rain is coming down.
But
where does technique fit into all of this?.
How do you manage to shoot and direct a film at the same time??
Technique
can always be mastered through books and guides, but the core lies
with experimentation because it is the only way to realise your
potential.
For the cinematographer of a film to also be able to direct it;
has its advantages and a fair share of shortcomings.
Mainly, lights and visuals guide a passionate cinematographer. There
lies a tendency to pay less attention to other aspects like script
or dialogue.
Sometimes it can work the other way around because you can get the
visuals to speak for themselves. While filming documentaries it works
better as selective visual moments have a better chance of being
captured at the spur rather than a feature film where the emphasis
may lie elsewhere.
For example A scriptwriter/Director could have a tendency to create
a vocal film. Essentially there are flip sides to it.
The bottomline is to be able to translate the directors vision into
the visual.
We decide to pack up. Its past midnight and
Santosh has begun thinking about dawn break. Its one of those moments.
I split..
